Lightware announce upgrade to the Taurus UCX range – HC40 now becomes the HC60!
The HC60 platform introduces several key hardware upgrades over the HC40, including improved video handling, a high-speed Gigabit Ethernet switch for faster network performance, and modern connectivity with dual, device-side USB-C ports replacing the previous USB-A interfaces. Display Stream Compression (DSC) is also now supported, enabling 2-lane 4K@60 with minimal compression. These enhancements deliver greater bandwidth, reliability, and compatibility in today’s AV environments.
Factory defaults have also been improved to streamline setup and strengthen security. All HC60 models now support 5K video output by default, delivering impressive 5120×2160 resolution at either 30 Hz 4:4:4 or 60 Hz 4:2:0 over HDMI 2.0. The HC60 is HTTPS-enabled and features smarter signal behaviour, such as HDMI 5V following input presence, HDCP disabled on inputs for simplified integration, plus USB and audio following the active video source. Additional improvements include LARA automation enabled by default and a USB-C BYOD port that now defaults to Power Role: Source for broader device compatibility.
The new HC60 platform is a powerful tool that can enhance many real-life applications, from corporate settings to education. With faster network performance, native USB-C peripheral connectivity, and 5K video output, it provides the foundation for future-ready BYOD meeting spaces. Schools and campuses benefit from its simplified installation, USB audio management, and LARA-ready configuration, delivering flawless classroom integration.
Additionally, Lightware’s new HC60 product line, including the DCX-3×1-HC21 and related models, now ships with a unique, factory-generated password printed directly on each device. After a factory reset, the unit returns to this original password, preventing the removal of password-based protection.
This update meets EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) requirements by eliminating universal default passwords and ensuring strong, device-specific security. The same secure labelling practice will be extended to other Lightware product families in the future.
Because all HC60 products are fully aligned with existing HC40 specifications, ongoing tenders and public plans remain valid without requiring any redesign or documentation updates. The exception to this is Lightware’s Dual Screen Taurus products, which will remain unchanged.
Available from Pacific AV soon.
